Viva Brazil, a true Churrascaria in Cardiff Centre
This week, the Archer tasting team headed to Viva Brazil, the “authentic Brazilian steakhouse”. Guided by our meat-lover instincts, and Viva Brazil’s all-you-can-eat-meat set up, we had to try this place out.
The whole experience was absolutely great and really gave us an authentic Brazilian feel to our dinner from start to finish.
At the entrance, traditional passadores (meat waiters) dressed in all black with red ties, gave us a warm welcome and guided us to our table (Viva Brazil has a great online booking system).
We started by sharing a traditional Brazilian caipirinha cocktail. While pricey, its size makes it worth every penny and you certainly get your money’s worth.
The passadores then brought us a little round card, which is used in every real churrascaria (Brazilian barbecue).
This is how it works: The card has two sides, one green and the other side red. Whenever you want to eat more meat, you turn your card to the green side. The passadores will come to serve a continuous array of different meats if you leave the card green side up.
As you probably guessed, the red side means when you don’t want to eat anymore… Or if you just want to take a break. And then you can flip back to the green side for your second helping and a third and a fourth…
There are 15 different types of meat you can choose from, all different and delicious. One of these meats is the very traditional picanha, a Brazilian favourite, considered to be the best part of the cow.
It is not just meat Viva Brazil offers either. The restaurant offers a very diverse salad buffet which includes several side dishes and traditional pão de queijo, a small round cheesy bread which is served hot.
After all that, if you still have enough room for dessert, which is included in the menu price, the restaurant provides a chocolate pudding, a passion fruit mousse, a chocolate cream or a papaya cream.
Viva Brazil makes for a fantastic night out and can be a great choice for couples, unless you are worried about devouring the meat equivalent of a cow in front of your other half. (I hope I am not shocking any vegetarians here!)
If you are thinking of taking a date to Viva Brazil, you can book a table for the special Valentine’s Day evening and have a chance of winning a weekend break in Paris!
